Asheville Gears Up For Bele Chere

Every summer, historic downtown Asheville transforms into the home of one of the Southeast's largest outdoor music festivals, and the annual event promises to be better than ever this July 24-26. Drawing more than 300,000 festival-goers every year, the 2009 Bele Chere line up is sure to please every musical taste. There will be four main stages featuring free live music from a range of genres. From reggae and rock to bluegrass and blues, Asheville will enjoy local and regional talent. Entertainment highlights will include The Afromotive, Charles Sayles, Highly Kind, Sons of Ralph (who played during last year's Summer Concert Series in The Bele ChereRamble), and more.

The city is home to hundreds of talented artisans, and the festival is a great showcase for all that they have to offer. The downtwon streets will be lined with hundreds of arts and crafts vendors and local merchants, including Asheville favorites such as Spiritex, Malaprops, The French Broad Chocolate Lounge, Tops for Shoes, and more. The weekend will be a great opportunity to pick up unique items that reflect the spirit of the Western North Carolina community. While you are there, you may also enjoy exploring the food courts, one of which is dedicate entirely to local restaurants and vendors.
