Design

Inspired by the forested surroundings of Asheville and the southern exposure, Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects designed the Living Well Center as an expression of balance between nature, human comfort and sustainability.

Views through the expansive windows bring the outdoors in, creating an inimitable setting for residents as they relax and enjoy an active lifestyle. Interior design and finishes reflect The Ramble’s mountain heritage; granite, bamboo, bluestone and walnut finishes are featured throughout.

In bringing the outdoors in, it seems only fitting that the design also pay homage to the beauty of the land. During construction, the preservation of trees was a priority. And the landscape design focused on enhancing nature’s magnificence with inviting grassy areas, while the fiber optic lighting around the pool creates a natural, soothing glow.

Geothermal heating and air conditioning and advanced wall panel insulation reduce the carbon footprint of the facility. The passive solar trellis screens high summer sun while allowing low winter sun to warm the interior. Its Tectum ceilings dampen noise and aid with reflected indirect lighting.
