The Ramble Offers New Wellness Opportunities
After driving through The Ramble Community just once, Andy Stenberg and his family knew that they had found their new home. The location placed them within minutes of Asheville's most exciting venues, and the many outdoor amenities complemented the welcome sense that they were removed from urban distractions yet close enough to visit them when they wished. After two years of living in the neighborhood, not a lot has changed from Stenberg's perspective, but The Ramble's has. With the addition of each new neighbor, the community is enriched with a fresh range of talents, passions, and interests that continue to guide and shape its best qualities, and this winter, Andy is making major strides towards improving The Ramble's wellness offerings. As an All-American Triathlete with more than 20 years of athletic competition and experience behind him, Stenberg was immediately drawn to The Ramble's award-winning Living Well Center. Community Associate and Director of the center Corey Black explains that Stenberg has a "magnetic personality, is extremely knowledgeable, and is a good role model. He truly wants to make a difference in people's lives." It didn't take long before Stenberg began sharing his tips with other residents who were exercising in the Living Well Center's fitness room, and now he's taken on an even larger role by leading an aerobic weight training class three times a week.
Stenberg relies on a holistic approach to wellness, explaining that "to achieve optimum wellness, both nutrition and fitness need to be addressed." But he doesn't expect his class participants to have to do it all on their own. After class, Stenberg takes advantage of the Living Well Center's demonstration kitchen by making smoothies and showing residents how to prepare low-hassle snacks and meals to power them post-workout. "The wellness center is an ideal location," Stenberg observes. "You can do everything there." In fact, the class is such a hit that they've had to move upstairs to the living room. The expansive windows offer beautiful views and plenty of sunlight, making for an ideal setting in which to exercise.
Stenberg hopes that this class is just the beginning of his involvement: "I'm looking forward to continuing to offer wellness opportunities," says an enthusiastic Stenberg. "This is my passion." Corey Black and Stenberg are even working on extending the classes to include evening socials, and they are mulling over the idea of offering spin classes, too. Whatever the conclusion from their brainstorming, Ramble residents can rest assured that the classes and activities will continue to set new standards in community living and quality of life.
