On Saturday, May 17th, Longmeadow Park came alive under the spring evening sky, creating a meaningful moment in The Ramble’s story. Looking back, we’re reminded of the community, connection and Appalachian spirit that filled the night.
For this year’s Ramble neighborhood concert, we were honored to welcome Grammy Award-winning, Steep Canyon Rangers. With roots deeply planted in Western North Carolina and performances that have graced renowned stages across the country, Steep Canyon Rangers are true torchbearers of the Appalachian sound and some of Americana’s most respected storytellers.
From upbeat favorites like “Stand and Deliver” and “Call the Captain” to the heartwarming vocals of “Fare Thee Well, Carolina Gals,” their colorful melodies filled the warm air, mingling with the natural rhythm of the evening. The audience was enchanted by rich harmonies and soulful instrumentation accompanied by a chorus of cicadas, reminding guests of the natural woodlands that embrace The Ramble.
Across the lawn, couples danced, chairs and blankets were spread and kids dashed through the grass playing larger-than-life games. Neighbors, families, and friends gathered over cold pours of local beer and cider, reveling in the joy of live music and shared moments.
Food trucks and local vendors served up a delicious array of Southern fusion blending savory, sweet and seasonal flavors.
With heartfelt gratitude, the community welcomed our friends at RiverLink, whose vital work in conserving the French Broad River and its surrounding watershed continues to inspire and educate. Their mission felt especially meaningful in the wake of Hurricane Helene, reminding us how connected we are to the land we call home and to each other.
The evening was a celebration of sound, story and togetherness. Steep Canyon Rangers offered more than a concert – they reminded us of what makes The Ramble so special: a place where beauty, community and artistry converge under the Carolina sky.
